7 Ways To Keep Your Casual Dating Casual

Casual dating is a tricky business. 1. Always Have A Date In Mind

If you do find yourself calling her every other day, even if you swear up and down that this is just casual dating, she’ll start expecting that phone call and it will be a lot more difficult to slip away when you need to do that. Similarly, if you start making plans with her every single weekend, sooner or later you’ll wonder if there ever was anyone else to spend your weekends with. However, if you can keep your casual date simply one of many then it’s a lot easier to feel like she’s not your primary squeeze. Not only are you committed to seeing more than one person and of course you need to make time for all of your girlfriends, you also have an incredibly demanding job that takes up so much of your time. At any moment your boss might ask you to work through the weekend or take a two week business trip to the other side of the country. Maybe you also have a sick mother that needs you to take her to the hospital regularly. Maybe you have a friend who’s addicted to drugs and needs your help to recover. Whatever it is, you should let her know that at any moment you might have your outside life take over and you’ll just be too busy for her. You guys are having a great time together, but she was never the most important thing going on in your life. Even if you’re having a great time with your casual date, it’s always good to occasionally remind her that everything is still casual. If you’re constantly talking like this then you’ll sound like an asshole, but if you can drop a hint now and then that these good times might end at any moment, then it won’t matter much when it does eventually end. Talking about how busy you are is always a sure bet (see above), but also maybe mentioning how much of a free spirit you are and how you could never be held down by one person. You still are having fun with her and you don’t want the dating to end just yet, but it could end suddenly and without warning. When it does end, she might get hurt, but she can’t say that you didn’t warn her.

Most importantly when your casually dating, you have to make sure that serious relationship type behaviors don’t start cropping up. Don’t let yourselves lounge around on a Sunday morning in your pajamas watching TV for hours. That’s what bored married couples do. Don’t introduce her to your friends, or let her introduce you to hers. God forbid she actually makes friends with some of yours! Good luck ending it then.
